Using Educator Produced Digital Stories
Through other MET courses that I have taken, I had already been exposed to the idea of the digital story prior to embarking on this Critical Inquiry Project (CIP). I have used digital stories that I have created myself with my students to help introduce units, promote special events, and engage my class in a lesson. I have included two examples of self-produced digital stories here.
The Power to Engage
This is a video that I created for ETEC-565A. Although I created this video as an assignment for a MET course, I actively use it in my classroom to introduce the circulatory system when we study the human body in Science. It grabs my students’ attention and it is an effective way to get my students thinking about the inner workings of the circulatory system.

The Power to Challenge Our Beliefs
This is a video that I created to launch a school wide initiative about every day super heroes. I felt that the combination of words and pictures would appeal to students in kindergarten through grade six. I wanted to push the students to reconsider their own beliefs about heroism by telling the story of everyday heroes, taking them beyond the stereotypical Hollywood portrayals and comic book pages.
